We see more than water.
We see potential.

Water already carries the world's ships. We put that same force to work for your shipyard.

Buoyancy-powered ship lifting and technical-economic engineering advice. Two ways to rethink what your waterfront can do.

01Lift with buoyancy

A different approach to vessel handling.

02Build around your needs

Technology shaped by the site and the fleet.

03Invest with clarity

Technical insight. Economic perspective.

Big lift.
Beautifully simple.

A platform. Compartmentalised tanks. Precisely controlled buoyancy. A new way to bring vessels out of the water.

ENGINEERED FROM FIRST PRINCIPLES

Let the water
do the lifting.

By controlling the water and air inside compartmentalised tanks, the platform harnesses buoyancy to raise and lower a vessel.

Stronger margins.
A lighter footprint.

Our contribution to the shipbuilding industry: a simpler lifting system, with the potential to reduce costs and the resources used along the way.

01 / ECONOMIC IMPACT

Cost savings.

Less complexity.
More value for your shipyard.

CAPEX reduction

Lower capital investment.

OPEX reduction

Lean day-to-day operations.

Maintenance costs

Fewer components to maintain.

02 / ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT

Sustainability.

Designed for cleaner
shipyard operations.

CO₂ emissions reduction

Whale Dock estimate

Less grease.
Cleaner water.

The lifting mechanism avoids the marine greases and lubricants used in conventional wire-rope systems.

Fewer consumables.
Less waste.

No lifting wire ropes to replace and dispose of. A simpler approach to long-term maintenance.

Whale Dock estimates compared with conventional ship-lifting systems. Results depend on project configuration and operating conditions.

About these estimates

The cost figures are expected benefits described in the Whale Dock Ports 4.0 technical report. The 80% CO₂ figure is Whale Dock's current estimate for the technology. Each project requires its own assessment of the operating conditions and reference system.

IDEA Programme Grant.

Whale Dock was selected in the 2023 Ports 4.0 IDEA Programme. This grant enabled us to develop the project from an idea at TRL 1 to TRL 3, building and testing a reduced-scale prototype that we showcased at nautical shows and conferences.
